I never thought I would be so into breastfeeding.

When I got pregnant, I knew that I wanted to breastfeed because I have heard that it is the perfect food for the baby. I read more about it and loved it even more. Breast milk is the perfect food for the baby — it changes as the baby grows to cater to his nutritional needs.

Once the baby arrived and I put the baby to the breast for the first time, I felt wonderful. So very close with the baby. Then, I found out that breastfeeding is not easy. (See my post on our breastfeeding journey.)

Since I had been fantasizing about breastfeeding my baby for months, I did not want to give up. I worked hard to make it work. Practice, practice, practice. Pump, pump, pump. Nurse, nurse, nurse. We are still working hard to keep it going.

It excites me to hear about friends planning to breastfeed. I offer them support and encouragement because I know it is really hard to do this on your own. They know that they can always call me if they need help. I might not always have answers, but I might be able to point them in the right direction.

Now that I have started breastfeeding my baby, I do not want to stop! Not that I will nurse him until he is 5, but I will continue as long as both of us still love the relationship.
